PFW: No bowling for the Froggies for a while
Well, at least I can say I got to see the final TCU bowl game for a few years.
The Royse City Bulldogs appear to be peaking at just the right time - in the middle of a playoff run. Next up is Abilene Wylie, always a Class 3A powerhouse. Beat these guys, and you have to like the Bulldogs' chances to go all the way.
The Drew Henson Era in Cowgirlland lasted - at least, for now - just one half. It ended with a "pick-six" by R.W. McQuarters for Da Bears' only points.
Bill Parcells re-inserted Vinny "Wrong Quarterback, Wrong Place, Wrong Time" Testaverde in for the second half to a rousing chorus of boos. And it didn't help things any when Testaverde threw yet another interception.
Fortunately, Chicago's offense vs. Dallas is roughly akin to SMU's vs. TCU, so there was no damage done. Julius Jones racked up 150 yards on the ground, and is starting to dispel any doubts folks might have had about taking him with the first-round pick.
Speaking of TCU and anemic teams...
As I was in Miami this past weekend, I didn't go see the game. Probably a good thing, because I probably would've tried to make it down to the field to strangle Gary Patterson, had I gone.
TCU led, 31-28 and had the Green Wave on the 3 with about three minutes left. All the Frogs have to do is keep them from driving 97 yards and they have overtime at the very least, and possibly a win.
But, noooooooooo!!!! Gary Patterson is still too busy being a radio personality to do even the slightest bit of work on his Swiss-cheese defense. Tulane's offense shoved it right down the Froggies' throat and scored the winning touchdown with 45 seconds left in the game. That's why the Frogs won't be in a bowl for the first time in seven years. That's why you're not a Division I football coach, Patterson! You'd rather pick your freakin' guitar and take phone calls on your radio show than figure out a way to stop a pathetic football team like Tulane! And when TCU is playing before crowds of 10,000 in that dilapadated mausoleum of a football stadium and having its collective ass busted down to NCAA Division II, I hope you remember that it all started on your watch with second-rate football players that you recruited!
Damn, I wish I were Eric Hyman - I'd fire your sorry ass in a heartbeat!
Anyway, this'll be the last regularly-scheduled Perfect Football Weekend until next year. We may do a bonus PFW Friday, seeing as I still have three teams to throw into the pot. Watch this space.
