Plain Speaking: In Short Supply These Days

Plain speaking and the truth.
One of our problems in today's politically correct, oooooh-he-offended-someone-so-string-him-up society is that we don't get enough 100% pure, old-fashioned, unvarnished, non-biodegradable plain straight-forwardness. Saying what you mean and meaning what you say.
Well, outside of this place, the Rott and the rest of our half of the Blogosphere, that is. (grin)
So here's this three-star Leatherneck general, answering a question asked during a panel discussion in San Diego the only way he knew how - straight-forward and to the point.
Frankly, we here manning the cloaking device on the Pegasus find those remarks muchly refreshing. Fact is, there are a damned good many of us Americans, the memory of 9/11 refusing to go stale, who consider what he said to be bang-on.
Naturally, the PC crowd went ballistic, and the Marine Corps commandant, showing a surprising display ofspinelessness sensitivity, declared that the general "should have chosen his words more carefully".
To which LC & IB SlagleRock responds thusly:
In fact, why don't you just go read what Slagle had to say about this whole sordid, mountain-out-of-a-molehill affair?
Go. Shoo. We'll be here when you get back.

"Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot," Mattis said, prompting laughter from some military members in the audience. "It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling.
"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis said. "You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

Why should he have chosen his words more wisely? Everyone is thinking it, Lt. Gen. James Mattis, just had the balls to say it. Semper Fi, General! Have we already forgotten the 3,000 plus Americans that were butchered on September 11, 2001? What about Nick Berg and Paul Johnson, both brutally beheaded by terrorists.
In fact, why don't you just go read what Slagle had to say about this whole sordid, mountain-out-of-a-molehill affair?
