PFW:  The Henson Era begins

Yes, I know the Cowgirls lost yesterday.  Yes, I know it was a blowout.

It matters not.  It was still  a Perfect Football Weekend.  For yesterday, thus officially began the Drew Henson Era.

Royse City 37, Kaufman 14
TCU 42, Southern P*ss 17
OU 35, Baylor 0
Dallas 10, Baltimore 30

Royse City spotted Kaufman a 7-0 lead, then rolled on the strength of quarterback James Mapps' arm.

On to Oklahoma.  If I were a betting man, I'd be a little bit torqued off at Bob Stoops right about now:  The Sooners beat the Bears by 35.  The line was 35½. (snort)

The Henson Era began after Vinny "Dudley Do-Wrong" Testaverde threw yet another "pick-six" - an interception returned for a touchdown.  Supposedly, he hurt his shoulder on the play, which is why Parcells sent out Henson.

The guess from here is that it was Parcells' street credibility that actually suffered the injury.

At any rate, Henson's first play was highly forgettable; on the pass play, Andre Gurode blocked his man like a matador on a bull - which is to say, "Olé!!!".  The resulting sack and fumble set Baltimore up on the 1, where it took only a couple plays to make it 30-3.

Henson, to his credit, came back on his next drive and went 6-6 on passing to drive the 'Boys smartly down the field.  He looked very comfortable and competent in the pocket, and while it was against a Ravens defense playing out the string, it was encouraging.  Hopefully, this is the start of something special in Dallas.

On to TCU.  Memo to Boob McLaughlin:  I told  you that your Southern P*ss Golden Showers were an inferior football team, didn't  I?

Denizens, I gotta be honest with you - I saw this team beat Nebraska in Lincoln, and I thought TCU didn't have a chance.  Louisville had just torched the secondary, and USM has every bit the receiving corps that Louisville did.

But TCU finally did something Saturday that they hadn't really done all year long:  Cover receivers using their base 4-2-5 defense.

Drew Coleman got the start at cornerback in place of Quincy "Toast" Butler, and he made the most of the opportunity, intercepting a pass in the first half to stop a Golden Eagle scoring drive.  That seemed to give the TCU defense confidence, and when USM starting quarterback Dustin Almond was knocked out in the third quarter, TCU began to pin its ears back and go after backup Jeremy Young.  Even though Young led them to two scoring drives, both of which began deep in TCU territory (one off a blocked punt), the Froggies managed to contain them.

Even the much-maligned Butler got into the act, salting the game away with a 99-yard interception return for TCU's final touchdown.  As Butler ran down the sideline, over on the west side of the stands, behind the back row under the canopy, there was one crazy-@$$ed fool, wearing a store-bought faux  jersey, trying to run from one end of the stands to the other with Butler, screaming at the top of his lungs - "That'll teach those b@$tards to keep us out of the BCS!!!!!"

D@mn, that was fun.  Even got a couple of high-fives out of it, too. (grin)

The PFW will come back Thursday - yes, Thanksgiving Day - for another crack at it.  Might actually get a bona fide  one this weekend, too, who knows?
