Ears perked up, eyebrows raised

(This one's gonna stay on top all day, for reasons which will become obvious as you read on...)

I'd consider it a favor if you guys would pray for the Lady today.

You see, she was making coffee this morning, per her usual routine, when she...ah...started tossing her cookies.  And she's felt like that all morning long.

Think about it for a second.  It'll come to you.

UPDATE:  Unfortunately, it turns out that it's only a virus.  Skip, you'll have to wait a little longer for that half-brother... (sigh)

PFW:  Sit down, Vinny

The PFW went exactly as I predicted it would.  Which, as it turns out, is a very bad thing.

Arlington Heights 42, South Hills 18
TCU 25, UAB 41
Oklahoma 31, Kansas State 21
Dallas 20, Pittsburgh 24

As predicted, my Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets ran roughshod on the Scorpions of South Hills.  Coach Duke Christian's job is safe for another week. (grin)

OU's Sooners weren't flashy in dispatch the KState Wildcats, but they got the job done, and I suppose that's what counts. The BCS seems to think so, too; OU is number 3 in the first BCS poll out this week.

On to TCU.  And to think that Dennis Francione returned this football program to prominence supposedly  on the back of the Gary Patterson defense.  The way this  Bambi unit operates, my Friday prediction of 4-7 may be overly optimistic.  Given the remainder of TCU's schedule, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the Frogs have already won all the games they're going to this year.

Athletic director Eric Hyman, if he's smart, will pull out the TCU wallet and pay Todd Dodge, who is the coach of the #1-ranked high school team in the nation, anything he wants to come to TCU.

Hyman isn't that smart, of course, so chancellor Mikey Ferrari will have to bring someone in who is.

Or perhaps Dodge might like to coach a pro football team.  We have one here in Dallas who seems content to lose games as long as the team plays well.

Let yesterday's game against the Steelers be a lesson to all Parcells-o-philes:  Not all Bill's "guys" are good football players.  Chief among those is pseudo-quarterback Vinny Testaverde, who was available this year for a reason. (Jerry Jones, are you listening?)

This bozo Testaverde has made a career of doing exactly the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time, despite all the talent he's supposed to have.  He had one-and-one-half good years with the Cleveland Browns, and he's parlayed that into a career of sparedom.

Yesterday was People's Exhibit Number 3,866 of this.  With 3rd-and-13 staring them in the face, needing only to get a first down to salt the game away with Dallas up 20-17, Testaverde dropped back to pass, had running back Richie Anderson bump his elbow, dropped the ball, and could only watch helplessly as a Steeler lineman scooped up the fumble and rumbled deep into Dallas territory, where it didn't take Ben Rothelisberger long to put the ball in the end zone.

"And how is that Testaverde's fault, Spatula?", I hear you ask.

Simple, Denizens.  First duty of the quarterback is to protect the ball.  Suppose, for a moment, it's still Quincy Carter back there.  Had he done that, what would we be bitching about today?  Mayhap about how Quincy needs to protect the ball a little better???

I rest my case.  This season's not going anywhere, anyway - Dallas should use this time to begin the Drew Henson era and see what he can do.

The PFW will return Friday for another round of p*ssing and moaning about the Froggies & Cowgirls. (sigh)
