PFW:  New rule?  What  new rule?

Before we get started with the Perfect Football Weekend, I have a minor gripe.  And it's directed at every single talking head on TV, radio and print who has somehow gotten it into his/her thick head that the NFL changed the rules this year.

Okay, flashback to last year's AFC championship game between the Indy Colts and the New England Pansy-asses.  The NE cornerbacks were literally mugging  Marvin Harrison and the Indy receiving corps.  Drawing, as you might expect, screams of protest from the Colts, their fans...and one particularly upset King & Tyrant. (grin)

This year, the NFL decides to place renewed emphasis on a rule that's been in effect for about 10 years now - that being that defensive backs get one chuck within five yards of the line of scrimmage, then must not make contact with the receiver until the ball arrives.

Well and good.  Should open up offenses and make for a more exciting game.  So will someone tell me why all the talking heads insist on bleating about "the new rule change in the NFL" for hours on end?

Seriously, guys.  Get a grip.  This is not  a new rule.  All it is, is a renewed emphasis on enforcing an old one.  Get it right, willya?

UPDATE:  Finally,  someone got it. Fox third-team color guy Bill Maas finally acknowledged that the rule isn't new, just the emphasis.

Hmf.  Took 'em long enough.

That said, here are this week's games.

My Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets have the week off.  And just when they'd figured things out, too. (sigh)

Oklahoma has Houston tomorrow night.  They may give up 50 to these guys, but they'll also score 65, so that'll be a win.

The Cowboys' secondary looks to keep from getting too  sauteed at Minnesota Sunday.  Good luck with all that. (rolls eyes)

And tomorrow evening, my TCU Horned Frogs had best  knock the crap out of cross-town rival SMU.  Granted, the Shetland Ponies held Texas Tech to 27 last week - and earned a draw in a three-minute brawl - but you don't let bad teams win on the road, and SMU is a bad  team.  This is an "attaboy/aws**t" game - all the "attaboys" Gary Patterson has accumulated in four years of coaching can be ruined by an "aws**t" loss to this team.

And Patterson's already had one of those once in his career (Northwestern State), so losing to the Shetlands is the last  thing he needs.
