...was actually made - well, yesterday.

Paul Weyrich of the Free Congress Foundation wrote an article on Newsmax that is extremely worthy of your attention.  In it, he rips the Republican Party - and rightly so - for not including more conservatives in their prime-time convention lineup.  And of that lineup, Weyrich says this:

For all their brilliance, Mehlman and Karl Rove (who no doubt vetted this line-up) have made a very serious mistake with this Convention’s line-up. It is one that the rank and file should not tolerate. If the President is embarrassed to be seen with conservatives at the Convention, maybe conservatives will be embarrassed to be seen with the President on Election Day.

Brilliant, Mr. Weyrich.  Are you listening, Dubya?


(NOTE:  Yes, I know Giuliani is part of the prime-time lineup.  Yes, I know I've endorsed him for Veep.  Yes, I know he is not conservative.

Rudy is, to put it bluntly, a useful idiot.  I am well aware that New York, along with most of the rest of America, venerates him for his comportment during 9/11.  His role in all this is to deliver New York to the Republicans in November, nothing else.   If he cannot do that, he is otherwise useless to the conservative movement.  He is the left-handed reliever used to pitch to one or two (almost always) left-handed batters in the seventh or eighth inning.

What you do with him is get him to deliver New York, then put him in charge of nothing all that important - like Der Kaiser used to do with Prince Ozone during most of the 90s.  Whatever is necessary to keep John-Boy & John-John out of the White House in '05.  We'll worry about '08 in '08.)
