Lead, follow or get out of the way, part II

As I was about to say yesterday, before I got sidetracked with getting the truck worked on and snagging groceries 'n stuff...

Misha had a great line in the post I referenced below.  It went like this:

I would think that Viet Nam taught us that, but apparently Bush wasn't paying attention. He certainly looks more like LBJ with every day that goes by. We the people are ready to back you, Mr. President, but you have to convince us that there's something to rally around.

In my view, this is Bush's "Compassionate Conservatism" mantra coming back to bite him squarely in the ass.  He seems to want to be seen as a "kinder, gentler" version of his "kinder, gentler" father.

He tries to bring a "new tone" to Washington.  He tries to cooperate with his political enemies - leaving them in positions of power in some cases (yes, Geo. Tenet, I'm looking at you), giving them carte blanche  to write legislation affecting our schools in others (Ted Kennedy, call your office, you murdering son-of-a-bitch).

He delivered a speech a year ago suspending "major combat operations" in a war which, though having appeared  to wipe out our enemies, had not yet - and still  hasn't - delivered an unconditional surrender on the part of the ragheaded swine that fight us.  And for our trouble, we have some seven or eight hundred dead troops that were probably about five hundred more than absolutely necessary.

Now, don't get me wrong.  This is war.  And in war, you have casualties.  People get killed.  It was Patton who said that the objective was not to die for your country, but to make the other SOB die for his.   Well, the other side, with only a slight tweak in outlook, operates that way as well.

Remember the episode of Gilligan's Island  where they happened upon the Japanese sub guy who hadn't been told that World War II was over?  Well, that's how the Islamofascists are treating this war.  Just because we took out Saddam Hussein does not  mean they were going to give up their particular fight.  It was W himself who stated that we were not fighting a conventional war with a conventional enemy - so why, then, did he think that capturing their icon and their capital city would prompt a conventional response?

Bush should've re-opened  "major combat operations" with the first roadside bombs & rocket-propelled grenades that killed our troops.  He should've had our satellites track those insurgents, then bomb them out of existence.  He failed to do so, and now we have a helluva lot larger mess than we needed to have there.  (Again, don't get me wrong - we can still clean this mess up, but it's going to take more effort, more manpower - and more money - than we needed to spend there in the first place.)

And this all happened because the "compassionate conservative" Bush took his foot off the collective throat of our enemies and allowed them to get back up and regroup - and then seemed honestly befuddled when they didn't just bow down and scrape before us.

Take Fallujah as another example.  That town should  be Dresdenized today - in other words, it should be a smoking, smoldering pile of rubble for what the Islamoswine there did to four Americans who were not only not part of the military, but were trying to help rebuild the town!!!   Today, however, the militia is run by people formerly loyal to Saddam Hussein.  In fact, because Bush caved in and allowed the town to not be leveled, the people in that hellhole were dancing in the streets afterward celebrating how they held up and endured against the Great Satan, the US.

This is a victory?

People's Exhibit Number Three:  A couple of weeks ago in southern Iraq, nine terrorist cells were graciously allowed to disband.  The one that was allowed to remain intact - not that the other nine will keep their word and dissolve, but that's another post - was the one belonging to the Islamonazi Muqtada al-Sadr.  For those of you keeping score, he's the one we were after in the first place.

This is a victory?

And just the other day, we had yet another American beheaded for all the world to see.  Granted, those responsible for Paul Johnson were gunned down, but it took the Soddies to pull it off.  And some of those who beheaded Nicholas Berg remain at-large.

President Bush, the time has come to take off the gloves and show these people just what happens when you harm so much as a hair of an American's head.  It is time to dump the "compassionate" bullshit, make the hard decisions and LEAD, for Gawd's™ sake.  Do what you know to be right,  instead of what you think will pacify the Not In Our Name and A.N.S.W.E.R. fucknozzles.

Yes, I'm going to vote for you in November, but unless you show some brass balls, it will be with one hand on the lever and the other clamping my nose shut.

And that's just me, a dyed-in-the-wool conservative.  Have you considered that others might either just stay home - or worse, vote for John-boy F'n KetchupA$$ where they might've voted for you otherwise?

Get up off your ass and get moving, Mr. President.  Now, before it's really too late.
