WITY: Gary Patterson, you should've listened to me...

Denizens, remember when I said that TCU RB Lonta Hobbs wasn't the answer at tailback for the Frogs?

Well, he proved it last night against Boise State in the Fort Worth Bowl. Talk about your "What'd I Tell Ya"s (WITY).

Yes, they're going to question why Gary Patterson didn't give All-American kicker Nick Browne the chance to tie the game from 51 yards out. (the official explanation is that he'd pulled a quad slightly) The fact is that Browne's range is about a couple inches short of 51 yards, injured or not. A 32-yarder in the first half barely  cleared the crossbar. Browne wasn't making the 51-yarder, injured or not.

However, TCU wouldn't have been in the position of needing a field goal to tie had they not given up a slam-dunk touchdown with just under thirteen minutes left to go. Leading 31-27 with the ball, our erstwhile star back left the ball on the grass when he ran into a teammate on the TCU 29. The Potatoheads needed all of two plays to seal the deal, whereupon TCU pulled its traditional end-of-game el foldo  act (a little Spanish lingo, there), thereby giving the game to the Spudfaces.

(Can you tell I'm just a little  bit pissed off at TCU right now?)

I've said it previously and I'll say it again: Gary Patterson is not a Division I-caliber NCAA football coach. If TCU wants to take the next step to national prominence, it must find a coach capable of winning the big games and running roughshod over the small fry. It is my opinion that Gary Patterson is not capable of doing either on a consistent basis.

And if TCU athletic director Eric Hyman is not willing to pull the trigger on such a coach, perhaps he needs to go, too. That is, if  TCU wants to return to national prominence...
