SMU: Freedom of speech for we, but not for thee...

Forcing me to add to the number of universities where I will never allow my son to go, SMU (Skip & Muffy University) in Dallas has unilaterally decreed that any speech by whites that offends minorities is patently illegal and Shall. Not. Be. Tolerated. (Speech by minorities that offends whites is still perfectly okay.):

The sign said white males had to pay $1 for a cookie. White women: 75 cents. Hispanics: 50 cents. Blacks: a quarter.

And they were bitching about this. They were getting a price break on baked goodies, and they were bitching!!!

Doesn't this just go to show that there's no pleasing the militants, no matter what?

The event Tuesday at Southern Methodist University was no PTA bake sale.

It was a conservative student group's attempt at making a political statement, and it caused such a stir that SMU shut it down after 45 minutes.

In other words, "free speech for we, but not for thee, whitey..."

The Young Conservatives of Texas chapter ran its so-called affirmative action

So-called???
That happens to be a perfect description of what the Young Conservatives were doing! They were taking a page from the Rush playbook and demonstrating absurdity by being absurd. What's this "so-called" bullshit?

bake sale to protest the use of race or gender as a factor in college admissions. Conservative groups have held similar sales at colleges around the country since February.

Chapters of the group held similar bake sales at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University this month. Both schools allowed the events, citing free speech policies.

Gee, it didn't get shut down anywhere else, just at Sado-Masochism University. Wonder what it is about SMU that the United States Constitution doesn't apply, hm?

Group leaders say they were only making a point while exercising their freedom of speech, but a black student who filed a discrimination complaint with SMU said the bake sale was offensive.

Hmmmmm, must've been one of the Rrrrrrev'rnnnnd Jac'ks'nnnnnn's troops. They do like digging for racismracismracism!!! under every rock...

SMU officials said they halted the event because it created a potentially unsafe situation for students.

"This was not an issue about free speech," said Tim Moore, director of the Hughes-Trigg Student Center. "It was really an issue where we had a hostile environment being created that was potentially volatile."

Translation: "We were afraid that the truth about affirmative action might actually get past our propagandist brainwashing and (GASP!!!) make it into these young skulls full of mush. We couldn't have that!!!

During the bake sale, students were crowding around the table outside the student center, and several began to get into a shouting match, Mr. Moore said.

In other words, the snot-nosed liberal punks began to whine.

[...]

Matt Houston, a sophomore, said the group's sign, which listed prices for the treats by the race and sex of buyers, was not a learning tool. It was offensive, he said.

"My reaction was disgust because of the ignorance of some SMU students," said Mr. Houston, who is black. "They were arguing that affirmative action was solely based on race. It's not based on race. It's based on bringing a diverse community to a certain organization."

That's what your masters on the PC plantation told you, is it?

He and Kambira Jones, a 20-year-old junior, both expressed their concerns to SMU officials. "When I saw this, I was like, 'I can't believe they let you guys post this,' " she said.

Truth hurts, doesn't it, Kammi baby?

"I felt they were attempting to make Hispanics and blacks feel inferior. We jumped over the same hoops to get there."

That so, trollop? Let's see your SAT scores. Let's see how they compare. Seriously.

[...]

Before the bake sale brouhaha, SMU already was planning a forum so students and others could debate the aftermath of the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action.

Yeah, I'll just bet they were.

[...]

"We value free speech, and I think our record here shows freedom of expression is important to the academic community and especially this one," said James Caswell, SMU's vice president of student affairs.

Except when it's conservatives doing the expressing, right, you sanctimonious, self-righteous son-of-a-bitch?

[...]

For the record, the SMU sale was a flop, at least financially. The group ended up selling just three cookies, raising $1.50.

Well, it is pretty damned hard having a bake sale when the Shit-and-Mange University brownshirts are trying to sniff up your ass...

UPDATE: Try as I might, I couldn't come up with anything more caustic than this. However, Misha had no such problem. Go read it...

What the @#$%@(#^??!! is he doing to that frickin' blog of his...?!

If you happened to tune in at an inopportune moment, you might have been asking yourself that very question.

Some background: Yesterday I decided to divvy up my archives into dailies, rather than weeklies. I was hoping it might allow me to more easily reference something I'd said previously, for use here or on other blogs.

Well, Bogsplot dutifully complied.

At which point, I discovered a flaw in my customized HTML template. You've seen that little blurb I uttered about Nutscrape? Well - it kept repeating and repeating and repeating. Sort of like last night's pizza, y'know?

Now, I find that the easy way to change the template is to load it into Front Page and sort things out from there. I figured I'd move the blurb, along with the link you use to email me, elsewhere on the page. It looked good in FP, but like the occasional doofus I am, I didn't bother previewing it before loading it onto Bogsplot.

The results were, needless to say, disasterous. Picture this blog about six characters wide...all the way down.

As a result, I spent all morning and a little of the afternoon tracking down the flaw in the HTML. Now, those of you who know me know that I find talking to machines easier than talking to people. But when it's a language about which I know squat, it gets a little dicey. ('Course, that was the reason for the six-character-wide output in the first place, so... (grin))

It turned out to be an extra tag that didn't need to be there in the first place. I removed it and then threw the two items in question up to the top, where you see them now.

All's well that ends well... (he said, fingers crossed)

Anyone ever notice...

...that Arianna Huffington sounds a helluva lot like Zsa Zsa Gabor...?
